Near the junction with the Canoncito trail, we can look eastward over the Cedar Crest area to the Llano Estacado in the far distance. We are still only about halfway from the tram terminal to the
South Peak area, and from there, we will have to negotiate the Embudito Canyon trail down.
The Llano Estacado, the southernmost extent of the West's High Plains, is a large, nearly-featureless expanse in eastern New Mexico and west Texas.
