Near the junction with the Pino Canyon trail, we look down (west) upon Albuquerque's Elena Gallegos Open Space. The Pino Canyon trail is a challenging 4.5 mile climb from the picnic ground to
here. To the east, the Cienega trail descends (more gently) to another picnic area and a spring that are easily accessible from the Sandia Crest highway. The high altitude and clear skies can
mean quick sunburns, so carry some sunscreen in your pack.
