About two hours into our journey, we came upon this outcropping where we could look back upon our starting point. The wilderness' proximity to Albuquerque is deceiving , and distances are difficult
to judge. Always hike as if you're expecting an overnight stay. Layered clothing, good boots or shoes, and raingear are definitely worth carrying, even in summer. Storms can arise
quickly and prove fatal.
