For some crazy reason, we thought we might save some time by traversing directly down through the scrub oak. Big mistake! We've probably covered ten miles by this point, and our knees are
beginning to complain. Plowing through the brush with only short pants leaves us with a lot of scratches. Ouch! However, we did intersect with our trail, as expected. By the
way, cell phone coverage is good here, as it was on most of the trail.
