Balloon Launch

We went to the great Friends Forever balloon launch. We showed up at the Balloon Fiesta Park and got ready to launch the Challengers balloon that we had decorated and built the week before. Just as we started to inflate the wind came up and we were forced to hold off the launch for about 15-20 minutes. This was OK because it gave us a chance to eat more donuts, bagels and drink more hot chocolate and coffee. Later we decided to try again, and this time the balloon went pretty far. We chased the balloon and saw that there were a lot of tears, but we fixed it with our tape and some help from our Dads. When we flew it again it went even further than before! We had to tape it some more, but the third time that we flew it there were no more rips. Then I went for ride in the real balloon, and that was really fun, That was my favorite part!  My dad noticed the no balloons went up in flames this year, and that all the balloons flew well and looked great! HW says that it looked like the Utes balloon went the highest and the Challengers balloon went further than anyone else's because we built it. My dad said that all in all it looked like this was one of the best balloon launches and maybe the most well attended ever. I think so too. I had a great time!!!!!

Induction Ceremony

On Saturday, November 13, we held our Induction Ceremony for new and returning members. We had a fair-sized crowd and started off the evening with indoor games and snacks. We enjoyed the games for about ½ hour and then headed outside for the campfire and ceremony. It was a beautiful evening, about the warmest evening we have had for this ceremony that I can remember. We introduced the new members by name and then all the parents sacrificed their "selfishness" and all the kids sacrificed their "impatience". The parents symbolized their sacrifice by tossing pennies into the fire, while the kids symbolized their sacrifice by tossing candy into the fire. After the ceremony, we cooked marshmallows and played some outdoor games and ate some more snacks. Everyone had such a good time that many stayed past the 8 p.m. end time for the activity. Many thanks to everyone who came and made this a special event. Also, to those who brought games, treats, drinks, etc., thanks, thanks, and thanks. The longhouse appreciates your generosity to the program.

1999 – 2000 Dues

The Y-Friends Forever Program membership requirements and dues for 1999 – 2000 are as follows:

Two basic memberships are required from the YMCA (one for the parent and one for the 1st child enrolled in the Y-Friends Forever Program). They are $30.00 each. The longhouse charges a program fee of $10.00/child, up to a maximum of $20.00/family. The longhouse can register both the basic membership and the Y-Friends Forever Program.

For example, 1 parent and 1 child, total fee = $70.00. 1 parent and 2 children = $80.00. 1 parent and 3 children = $80.00, etc. Additional children enrolled in the program (after 1st) get a free basic membership from the YMCA.
