Rediscovering Family Connections

Welcome to the Far-Flung
Krucho(w)ski Family!

(continued) I had known about the "other" Kruchoski's for a long time – the ones who spelled their name with a "w".  During many summer visits to my grandparents in Chisholm, Minnesota, I would delight in paging through their thin phone book, where family names were plentiful in Hibbing, Keewatin, Virginia, and other towns on the Mesabi Iron Range.  But beyond that, we had no real contact, except perhaps at one of the few family gatherings at the Balkan Township school.

Over the past few years, I began seeing the Krucho(w)ski name more frequently as I tested the capabilities of various search engines on the Internet.  What better way to test them than to submit an obscure family name like ours?  Surely, there couldn't be many "hits," I thought.  But amazingly, I was wrong.  I've kept in touch (vicariously) with those family members: their band concerts, athletic events, professional lives, hobbies, publications – and even their deaths.  In some cases, I've tried to contact them, with mixed results.

However, with the exciting discovery of far-flung relatives in South America, I decided to try once again to contact the people I found via the Internet.  Excitement aside, another motivation for this endeavor, unfortunately, is my own father's failing health and my interest in preserving as much of our family memories as possible – before his death.  I think parents often wonder, "Will my family remember me?  What will they remember?  Will those memories be good or bad?"  So, part of this site is dedicated to answering those questions by creating a living, growing document to capture our family memories for our own descendants.  In that way, we not only honor those who brought us into the world, but we also create a way that we can live on in our children's memories, long after we've sighed our last breath.
