Email Albuquerque Journal Metro News Editor (2/5/2001)
Mr. Moore,
In baseball they'd say, "Strike One, Strike Two, Strike Three ... You're Out!" Try as you may, the Journal and its staff simply cannot get education issues "right"!
Case in point: Candidate questionnaire, page B4, Sunday, Feb. 4.
It would have been fair to summarize me as advocating: "Immediate, system-wide implementation of Baldrige in Education, an educator-initiated program to improve student and teacher performance."
Unfortunately, either your staffer did not understand the on-going efforts in this area (within APS as well as school systems nationwide), or she was "testing" me to see if I understood the buzz words I
might have been using, In either case, SHE failed the test! Strike Three for the Journal!
The result was that most of the people I've talked to afterward have concluded that I, not Paula Maes, must be the Chamber-endorsed candidate in District 5. Ineptitude or careful crafting of my words?
Most people I've talked to share the opinion that the Chamber's agenda is going down in flames. Tying me to it is one way to assure I go with it.
So, journalists would have us believe they can lead the way to ousting the low performing teachers and improving public school performance? "Physician, heal thyself!" Deadlines and pressure
are no excuse for poor journalism.
A correction would be in order.
Mike Kruchoski, Candidate, District 5
